Subject:never change a working system...
Time:04:47 pm

Hi everyone, I wanted to warn you up front: There's the possibility that I might not be available by land line or computer for a (hopefully) short time next week.

I'm changing my phone/DSL access (moving my telephone mainline from Telekom to my DSL provider 1&1) and when they activate that I'll have to change all the hardware (phone box thingy, router), the old hardware won't work anymore.

After I placed my order I was informed that in my region this kind of package wasn't available yet but that they'd now pay for my phone bill since I'd have to keep that with the Telekom.

Friday I got a letter that they'd activate the line on July 13.

O... k... - but I don't have the hardware yet! So I called support and they told me that yes, I'd need the hardware; without it I simply won't have telephone or Internet at all after they flipped the switch. But not to worry because they don't have an activation date in their files yet. Erm. And what about the letter and the 13th? Not in their files. Oh. Good.

Support guy promised me to send the parcel with the hardware asap so I'd have it should they indeed activate the technical thingumy next Monday.

All I can do is wait and see if they'll really send me the hardware and if anything happens next week at all - and if: that things will work smoothly as they are supposed to be. Then my connection outage will only last minutes/hours.

are you sure you want to trust in 1&1? I left them again after loads of trouble with them - and looooong times of waiting for changes to be implemented and such things.

Apart from that - I know a lady who works in their service (their 'home place' is not 30 km from here) and she says that they usually take their time, because of many negative experiences with customers who build up huge bills within the first few hours and never pay them - we're talking about 2000€ bills in less than 12 hours...so it might be that...

Anyway...good luck to you!

I've been with 1&1 for years now (4 or 5 at least...) - and they've always delivered and everything has been working fine; whereas with the Telekom, don't get me started... :o)

You do?

I find that if I look at it despairingly enough for long enough, sometimes the signal will come back!

;-P
